What Drives You Battty?

As we were learning about bats this week, we talked about what the expression "drives me batty" means. I asked each student to think about what drives them batty and we created this chart together!

September - A Peek Into Our Day

Welcome to our classroom blog for 2012-2013! This is a place to check out all the fun and exciting things we do in kindergarten. Please check back regularly as I will attempt to post about once a month!
Take a look at these cuties dressed up as their future career options. We had this theme day during our College Week Celebration at Bledsoe.

 Nicky - astronaut, Marcus - cowboy, Nikolas - zookeeper, Blake S. - police officer
 Avery - Sea World marine biologist, Taylor - veteranarian, Yasmine - doctor
We also got to have a class PJ day because we got so many compliments as a class. Each time another teacher or staff member notices that our class is quiet, straight, good listeners, etc. we earn a link on our link chain in the classroom. The first time we were working towards 10 link, and the class chose a PJ day as their reward!
You might hear your child talk about Daily 5 time. We have been hard at work, practicing all 5 components of Daily 5 - Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, and Word Work, and we now spend about 45 minutes a day working on the Daily 5. The students get to spread all around the classroom, and practice reading and writing in different ways. Check out these fun pics of the students during our Daily 5 Time:
 Listen to Reading - books on tape or CD
 Read to Someone - sitting EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee with a partner)
 Retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears
 Work on Writing - making  the letter D wtih wood pieces
 Word Work - matching beginning sound picture cards
 More Word Work - matching letter tiles to alphabet chart
 Work on Writing - stamping letters in the Writing Station

 Read to Self - reading books on each student's levels
